Japanese investment firm Metaplanet has made a significant move to bolster its Bitcoin investments by acquiring an additional 68.59 BTC for approximately 996 million Japanese yen, equivalent to around $6.6 million. This strategic purchase brings Metaplanet’s total Bitcoin holdings to 2,100 BTC, which represents roughly 0.01% of the entire Bitcoin supply currently in circulation.
In a detailed announcement released on Thursday, Metaplanet indicated that the recent acquisition was conducted at an average price of 14.53 million yen per BTC. The firm has developed a comprehensive framework for tracking its Bitcoin investments through a metric known as BTC Yield. This metric evaluates the performance of its Bitcoin holdings in relation to its fully diluted shares, providing investors with insights into the effectiveness of their investments over time.
For the third quarter of 2024, Metaplanet reported an impressive BTC Yield of 41.7%, signaling robust growth in Bitcoin performance. However, it is noteworthy that in the fourth quarter of 2024, this figure soared dramatically to an astonishing 309.8%. This steep increase underscores the volatility and potential of the cryptocurrency market, as well as Metaplanet’s strategic positioning within it.
