A remarkable woman from Surrey, Lauren Papadopoulos Green, is embarking on an inspiring month-long walking challenge to commemorate more than a decade since her life-altering diagnosis. At just 18 years old, Lauren faced a daunting battle when doctors informed her she had a schwannoma tumor, a rare type of tumor affecting the protective sheath of the nerves. Given a mere 5% chance of survival, she found herself confronting the unimaginable.
Now, nearly 12 years later and at the age of 29, Lauren is determined to celebrate her journey of resilience and recovery by walking 10,000 steps each day throughout February. This challenge not only symbolizes her triumphant return to mobility, having temporarily lost the ability to walk during her treatment, but also serves as a powerful demonstration of hope and strength in the face of adversity.
In her own words, Ms. Papadopoulos Green expressed, “There was a time I never thought I’d be in this position, let alone be able to walk again. So to walk every day for around two hours feels like a wonderful way to honor the beginning of my brain tumor journey.” Through her efforts, she aims to raise funds for charity, hoping to inspire others facing similar challenges while fostering awareness about brain tumors and their impact on the lives of those affected.
