Weathernews Inc., headquartered in Mihama-Ku, Chiba, Japan, under the leadership of President and Representative Director Tomohiro Ishibashi, has announced an exciting collaboration with Google to develop an advanced weather forecasting technology known as “Google Nowcast.” This innovative system, set to launch in July 2024, will provide highly precise rainfall predictions displayed in five-minute increments for up to 12 hours in advance, significantly enhancing the accuracy of weather search results for users.
The foundation of this cutting-edge technology is built upon Weathernews’ proprietary rainfall analysis data, which integrates observations from approximately 13,000 monitoring locations worldwide, combined with real-time weather reports contributed by users of the “Weathernews” app. By employing this extensive dataset, the team has successfully trained Google’s AI prediction model, MetNet-3, utilizing both historical rainfall data and timely five-minute interval inputs from Weathernews. This synergistic approach enables the model to generate forecasts with remarkable accuracy, allowing users to plan their activities with confidence and stay informed about rapidly changing weather conditions.
This collaboration not only underscores the potential of AI in revolutionizing meteorological services but also highlights Weathernews’ commitment to providing actionable and localized weather information through its advanced technology and user engagement.
